Our history

A twenty-five year partnership

Coccato & Mezzetti has been involved in the industrial production and manufacturing of medical and funeral products since 1978. In 1992, the company’s research into ecological solutions brought about a collaboration with Novamont, whose industrial research a short time before had given rise to Mater-BI® – a bioplastic derived from natural starches – destined to revolutionise the chemical industry at an international level.

In 1995, on discovering the effectiveness of this bioplastic in resolving sanitation problems in the funerary sector, the first industrial plant for transforming Mater-BI® through lamination (bio-plastification) was established. This development launched an important strategic partnership with Novamont.

After patenting the Promovita® trademark, Coccato & Mezzetti began to produce semi-finished cellulose products (paper and cardboard) for 100% biodegradable and compostable plates and glasses which have had notable success and become a cornerstone in the single-use tableware sector.

Over their 25 years of collaborating with Novamont, Coccato & Mezzetti has continued to invest in the research and development of new applications for green thermoplastic, such as those that we use in different areas of our daily lives today.

In 1995, Coccato & Mezzetti entered a strategic partnership with Novamont, through the establishment of the first industrial-scale bio-plastification plant to produce Mater-BI® under the Promovita® trademark, providing alternative industrial-level biodegradable and compostable solutions with a reduced environmental impact.

Innovative spirit and dynamism are key qualities of the organisation, which have helped it to carve out a prominent role in solving different issues in the sector and moreover in obtaining official recognition from relevant bodies: Ministry of Health, Ministry of the Environment, Legambiente environmental association, Comieco (National Consortium for the Recovery and Recycling of Cellulose-Based Packaging) and many others.

Coccato & Mezzetti operates under the UNI EN ISO 9001 Quality Management System and is an authorised supplier to the Italian Public Administration Electronic Marketplace (MEPA, a public eProcurement tool used by local administrations for tendering projects.
